A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to Austin

Ok, not really, but I did see some fairly "unique" sights on my way to Austin.

  1. A dead horse.  I don’t think it was sleeping.  Don’t horses stand when they sleep or is that just cows?  Either way I’m pretty sure the horse was dead.  I wonder what you do with a dead horse – horse jerky?  glue?
  2. Big Rig Videos.  And not the good kind.  The video “store” if you could loosely refer to it as a store was located out of the back of a freight truck with obscene words written across the front to entice customers inside.  I’m sure one can only imagine what kind of videos a man needs as he treks across the open road in his Big Rig.
  3. 1,593,000 Trucks.  Texas is the land of F-150, F-250, and F-350s.  Apparently the oil crisis is not an issue for Texans.  I guess they will get their shovels out and dig their own oil when Texas becomes an independent nation and secedes from the Union.
  4. 1,593,000 Churches.  They don’t call Texas the buckle of the Bible belt for nothing.  Assemblies of God, Baptist, Church of Christ, just to name a few…
Of course upon arrival we immediately made our way to a delish Mexican food eatery, Curra’s Grill, and then spent the evening walking around downtown Austin.  And now, must go to sleep early since apparently the only way I can get my mother to yoga is to go to the 6 am class. Ugh.

Austin welcomes you to Batfest 2008!

The Olympics are over, the Democratic convention is about to begin, and I am on my way to a well-needed vacation.  Albeit this vacation is not nearly as exciting as past years as this trip only requires me to hop in the car and travel a few hours to Austin. Although I can tell you that this is a nice change of pace from the long security line at the airport and five hour layovers to travel half-way across the world.  Half-way across Texas will suffice for me this year thank you very much.

I am sure to have blog-worthy stories as I convinced my mother to join me in yoga class and to visit the LBJ library and museum which will be having a centennial celebration in "honor" of our thirty-sixth president.  Of course no trip to Austin is complete without a side trip to San Marcos and the fabulous outlet malls.  I have been dreaming of the Tahari store for weeks now.  Unfortunately, I will miss Batfest 2008 as it will take place next Saturday and Sunday and I will be leaving on Thursday, the tragedy.  So for now, so long, and thanks for all the fish!
